Google went down today. The Internet went bananas

We wouldn’t normally write about a mere few minutes in down time, but when it’s Google, it’s notable.
Google.com, Google’s search product (you may have heard of) went down between 23:52 and 23:57 BST according to Search Engine Land. Not since 2009 has Google Search experienced any downtime.
What’s more, it appears a number of other Google services, namely Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive and Google Calendar experienced varying minutes of down time.
It didn’t appear to trend on Twitter but a look at Hacker News and the graph below (via Twitter analytics tool Topsy) will tell you it definitely happened.
Google has issued a statement saying:
“We have received reports of an issue affecting some Google services. The issue is now resolved. Please follow our dashboard for more information: http://www.google.com/appsstatus”
Who else restarted their router to try to fix the problem? :)

Back to the Future With IT

In the movie series Back to the Future, Marty McFly jumps back and forth through time in an awesome time-traveling DeLorean to save his existence and others near him. Throughout the movie series, especially the second which takes place in 2015, we get to see a variety of fun and imaginative guesses as to what our world will be in the future. The movie included things like suspended animation kennels, holographic movie theaters, chiropractic hoverbelts, and more. One of my favorites was the sunglasses that were small, portable personal phones. I'm wondering when I'll be able to buy a pair.
The movie reminded me of the evolution of information technology (IT) and how much it's changed over the years. In 1945, a draft report on the EDVAC was written describing the concept of a stored program and is the blueprint for computer architecture to this day. When I first graduated college, mainframes were still heavily used and all the computing power was centralized in the data center. (Gee, isn't that similar to cloud computing?)
Within a year of starting my job, I was fortunate to stumble into one of the first local area networks at Exxon which took advantage of yet another IT breakthrough-Ethernet. While Ethernet was invented at Xerox in 1973, it took many years for it to be widely adopted. About the same time I was rolling out a LAN at Exxon in 1989, across the Atlantic Ocean at CERN, Tim Berners-Lee shared a document entitled, "Information Management: A Proposal" which outlined a global hypertext system (a.k.a., the World Wide Web). Travel forward 25 years and my how things have changed!
I recently had the privilege to hear futurist Mark Goodman (you can check him out on YouTube) talk about the explosive development of information technology. He goes on to explain the concept of accelerating returns and how it applies to IT. The example he used: A picture of Apollo 11 and an iPhone. What's the common link? There are more computing cycles in an iPhone today than were available to all of NASA at the time of the Apollo space launch. Each year, computing capabilities double, and then double again, and then double again, and so on. Just imagine what your iPhone or Droid will be in 20 to 30 years. It seems unfathomable to me.
So, what does all this mean to you and me today? Information technology is changing and as business people, we need to leverage it to its fullest potential. In particular, the cloud computing trend has brought many benefits to businesses that simply were out of reach 5-10 years ago. Benefits such as bullet-proof data center technology, access from anywhere, anytime and more. It's imperative to keep yourself abreast of these changes in IT and adjust your technology strategies to achieve your business goals.

Turn your android 2.2+ phone into an ICS looking device using Hololauncher

Even though there are only very few number of devices present in market which are running on android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, its very popular and cool looking version of android. Everyone wanted to use this because of its more simplicity and all the high tech stuff present in it.

But everyone knows that majority of the android phones used by people all over the world is running on android 2.3 gingerbread. Also there are people still using 2.2 froyo even though it can be updated to 2.3.

ICS update is available for some high end devices like samsung galaxy s2 in which users can download the latest update and make their device look more cool. But unfortunately, most gingerbread devices does not supports ICS update because of hardware limitations. So the only way  to make those phones look like ICS is to install launcher applications.

Here i am introducing the HoloLauncher applications which helps to transform any android phone to an ICS device.
Features we like:
  • Real ICS looking homescreen
  • Very fast loading. There is no lags at all.
  • Latest ICS google search bar

How to completely download a partially downloaded movie from another computer

First of all let me tell you that this post is not for those pros who have been working in this field for years. It's just dedicated to freshers who is trying to learn more about tech

Have you ever had a problem that you didn't got enough time to complete the download of a movie or any other stuff like that using torrent? Well here is the solution for your problem. You can complete any torrent file download from any system that you want, which is partially downloaded (say about 50%) from another computer.

The procedure is very simple. Simply follow these steps.

Step #1
First of all, you need that file which is partially downloaded to be carried to the new system that you would like to complete the download. So copy the entire folder which contains the file(s) into a pen drive or any other data storage devices you like.  Let us take the computer in which you started the download as system1 and take the second computer in which you wish to complete the download as system2 and also we are assuming that you are downloading a movie. We also need the .torrent file of the movie so you have to either take down the link to that torrent or copy the .torrent file along with the partially downloaded movie.

Step #2
Plug in the drive to system2 and copy both the torrent file and the partially downloaded file to any directory that you want. Lets take it ac C:\Downloads\Movie_Name\movie.avi. From now on, we will be taking this directory as reference to describe the procedures.

Step #3
Open the .torrent file (either by going into the link you have noted down or by opening from the .torrent file which is in your pen drive). Now the torrent client (utorrent, bit torrent, bitcomet etc) will ask you to select the folder in which you want to download the movie. Select it as C:\Downloads\Movie_Name\.

( one of the leading torrent site piratebay.org is now providing magnet links. If you have a magnet link, go to magnet link so that the torrent client will open up).

Now you will see there is written "checking %" on the download status bar.
That's it, you are done. As soon as the checking process completes, the file will start downloading..

If you have any queries at all, please feel free to post below as a comment and we will be happy to reply to your comment.
